Hugo on Love

Victor Hugo

I don't really know much about Victor Hugo,  but I do know that he is a popular author who wrote a variety of novels and I guess other works that have captured the imagination of millions.   His stories have been told, and retold in movies, dirivitive books,  television shows and more.

Reading Hugo isn't necessarily a simple task,  he writes in a complex manner, fully engaging tangents in stories.  Though thankfully,  not every tangent.  Perhaps the art of abridging novels came to the fore with Hugo.    Hugo's novels  remind me of Moby Dick,  another novel ripe for condensation.

Les Miserable - the Book

Way back when I worked at Key Bank,  there was something of a resurgence of the Victor Hugo novel ,  Les Miserable.  One of my coworkers had recomended the book hving been very impressed with the story at the front of the book about the Bishop.

Victor Hugo was maybe being paid by the word,  because the the unabridged version takes a rather meandering path through a wide variety of subjects.   Hugo talks about the catholic church, military history, prison systems, and even actual charaters in the main story once in a while.

Victor Hugo worte a great novel called Les Miserable the main plot of the story is about Jean Valjean and his redemption and life.  Hugo has a way of writing that covers many areas and a variety of levels.

Miserable Love

There is a love story imbedded in the long volume of Les Miserable that includes a substantial review of love.

There are a lot of details about the love story, but the key to this page is the image to follow.

Denise recently read the book, and as she is wont to do- shared her thoughts with me...
